About Me

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and came to California in the early 1970’s. Following careers in the entertainment and construction industries, I returned to graduate school in my early fifties, earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles and, after the prescribed 3000 hours of internship and passing a grueling six hour exam, became licensed in the State of California 4 years later! Along with my son (see photo), my license is one of the top priorities in my life with which I take great pride and value highly – so much so that I would never do anything to jeopardize it!

I am very fortunate to have found my purpose in the practice of psychotherapy. Being able to work every day while at the same time recognizing it as my purpose in my life is an honor. As a result, I truly love what I do. I have observed over the years that that those who truly love what they do are usually exceptional at it! For the sake of humility, I won’t pretend to claim that attribute. However, I do feel extremely fortunate and very grateful. As such, I emphasize the quest for purpose with my clients and make a commitment to each and every one to assist them in that journey should they desire it. In addition, one’s purpose doesn’t necessarily have to be what they do for a living. Many who have found it often make it an integral part of their life but not necessarily of their occupation.

I have many years of personal recovery and am passionate about helping others to recover from alcoholism and addiction while integrating The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous with modern psychotherapy.

I also take enormous satisfaction in facilitating group therapy on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, Emotional Sobriety, Relapse Prevention, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Anxiety, Midlife issues and Men’s issues.

My Mission & Values

My mission is to help each person realize their potential and discover new possibilities within themselves and in their relationships.  I do this by:

  • Promoting awareness and discovering new possibilities.

  • Using and facilitating experiential interventions/experiments.

  • Focusing on what is missing in how a person is functioning.

  • Helping a person learn how to stay centered and hold on to themselves.

  • Combining the wisdom of 12-Step programs with the knowledge and science of psychotherapy

  • Providing one-on-one, couples, and family therapy sessions.

  • Letting a person’s problem determine the direction of the therapy.

  • Sharing my experiences and knowledge.

Many principles govern my work, but three of the most important are that no one should suffer alone, that trouble doesn’t mean something is wrong but rather illuminates the next step in our personal development that we need to take, and that therapy should be a practical, no nonsense experience.
